Moscow, Cairo agree to restart flights to Egyptian resorts

CAIRO/MOSCOW, Apr 23 (PRIME) -- Moscow and Cairo have agreed on a complete relaunch of flights between Russian cities and Egyptian resorts of Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada, the press service of the Egyptian president said in a statement on Friday.

“During a phone call of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi with Russian President Vladimir Putin… an agreement was reached on a complete restart of air cooperation between airports of the two countries, including airports of Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh,” the press service said quoting el-Sisi’s spokesman Bassam Rady.

The two countries are successfully cooperating in the sphere of tourism, and Egyptian airports comply with the necessary criteria, Rady said.

Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the information. “Yes, we are preparing a statement,” Peskov said when asked whether an agreement was reached.

Russia suspended flights to Egypt in 2015 after a major crash of a Russian plane over the Sinai Peninsula. Russia believed that the plane had been likely brought down by a bomb. In April 2018, the states resumed regular air service between the capitals, Moscow and Cairo.
